Making Strides Against Cancer Walk in Norfolk 3 Oct 09

On 3 Oct 09, I had the opportunity to Volunteer at Harbor Park for the American Cancer Society "Making Strides Against Cancer Walk" in Norfolk, VA. Let me tell you the experience brought back a lot of memories.

It's been about 12 years since I volunteered for Hospice. Although I have not experienced dealing with Breast Cancer patients or Survivors, I am no stranger to loosing someone to Cancer.

See, my father passed away of colon cancer when I was 14 yrs old. "Daddy may you rest in peace!" I miss you! This was a very difficult time in my life, but for whatever reason it had to happen? I know the experience definitely made me who I am today; A strong, responsible, loving, outgoing, and sometimes hard headed independent woman! After my father passed away I spent the majority of my free time caring for Hospice patients. In 1996 my efforts were rewarded when I was chosen to represent Debary, Fl by running the 1996 Torch in the Olympics. Unknowingly, Hospice submitted a letter to the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Committee and I was chosen as one of the winners. As you could imagine this was a very proud moment in my life.

Well, I tell you what... nothing compares to giving your time for a good cause. My job this past Saturday was registration and of course taking pictures of the event. It was amazing we are hoping to beat last years numbers. 2008's walk raised over $360,000 with more than 6,000 participants.

Here's just a few of the 2009 photos I took this Saturday. They speak for themselves! Bless you all and remember to book your exams! Save the TATAS ladies! ;-) XOXO Besos Anna C.
